Bornblum Solomon Schechter School (BSSS) provides an exceptional secular and Jewish education, fostering healthy personal growth, a love of learning, a lifelong commitment to Judaism and the development of strong moral values.
Vision Statement 2006-2016
As a key institution of the Memphis Jewish community, the Bornblum Solomon Schechter School today provides a well-rounded secular and Judaic curriculum that prepares students from grade one through grade eight to become educated, passionate and committed Jews. As BSSS looks to its future, it does so with expectations that it will continue to flourish and to strengthen its position as the best Jewish day school in the community and one of the premiere Jewish day schools in the United States.

- 1. BSSS is committed to educating students in a warm, supportive environment that fosters inquiry and creative thinking while utilizing best practices.
- No child will be refused admission to BSSS because of financial reasons.
- Educational practices at BSSS represent cutting edge approaches to quality education.
- Teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and Board work closely in a cooperative approach to advance the school’s goals.
- Frequent parent-faculty dialogue will reflect an on-going commitment to effective communication.
- BSSS will maintain and advance its place as a valued and respected asset in the Memphis Jewish community and, as such, will remain an indispensable educational and Jewish resource.
- All facilities – academic, athletic, extra-curricular, and administrative – must be state-of-the-art and incorporate dignified and attractive environments that foster critical thinking, respect for others, and Jewish pride.
- Alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, and other friends of the school will take a prominent role in advocating for BSSS.
- The school’s Board of Directors will continually strive for a balance of leadership from the BSSS parent community and from outside the parent community.
- BSSS students represent a cross-section of the Memphis Jewish community. BSSS families will understand and respect the affiliation that BSSS has as a Conservative Movement day school affiliated with the Solomon Schechter Da y School Association.
- BSSS will attract and retain outstanding professional leadership by providing competitive salaries, an emphasis on professional growth, and teamwork in order to provide a well-rounded and quality education.
- Financially, BSSS will expand its restricted and unrestricted endowment program to be at a level reflective of best practices for other comparable and strong schools. Tuition levels will be competitive yet attractive.
